Pupil Voice

2019-2020

St Paul's School Council

At St Paul's we are proud to have pupil representatives that take part in Class and School Council meetings.  These councils are in place so that pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about the school that affect them.  Through Class Council all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates in reaching a democratic solution.  Wider issues that arise at Class Council are discussed further at School Council, this ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard.  Pupils at St Paul's know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter.  We have been commended for our hard working School Council with an amazing award from Portsmouth City Council.

Our School council is made up to two elected representatives from each class. The council meets regualty during term time to discuss issues raised at class meetings. We feel the School Council makes a valuable contribution towards the continued success of St Paul's.

Our Purpose

We are the voice of the students at St Paul's

  • We aim to get ensure things are completed and to make our school the best it can be.
  • To find ways to improve our school.
  • To give every pupil a voice and to make all decision making fair.

Roles within our School Council

Chairperson: The Chairperson runs the meetings. First, they read through the last week’s minutes to check they are a true reflection of what happened; if all members agree, the minutes are signed. The chair then forms and shares the meeting’s agenda with the school council and works through this.

Vice Chair Person: The Vice Chairperson needs to be prepared to lead the meeting if the Chair is absent. They also support the Chairperson in their role, when required. When the minutes have been signed, the Vice Chair takes them to the office to be filed.
